Benchmark observations based on the selected data
This analysis is based on $3B worth of advertising data from our dataset, which provides strong directional benchmarks. In short: cost-per-click (CPC) in Canada ran below the global median for most of the 13-month window, showing episodic spikes and troughs — a notable November 2025 peak, a deep spring low in March 2026, and a late rebound that left July 2026 as the only month above the global benchmark. This analysis explores ad performance trends for All industries available in Canada compared to the global benchmark.
Canada’s median CPC started at $1.06 in July 2025 and finished at $0.92 in July 2026, a decline of roughly 13% from the opening month. Across the period the Canadian median was about $0.90 on average (mean ≈ $0.895), with a high of $1.14 in November 2025 and a low of $0.68 in March 2026 — a range of roughly $0.46. Month-to-month momentum was choppy: October→November produced a sharp lift (+32%), November→December retraced (~−15%), and year-end gave way to a deep January trough (−28% from December) before another swing into spring. Biggest single rebound occurred March→April (+28%).
By contrast the global baseline averaged roughly $1.05 per click across the same months. Global highs clustered in late 2025 (November ≈ $1.29) and stayed around $1.06–$1.11 for several months, with a pronounced global downturn into July 2026 (global July ≈ $0.77).
The Canadian cadence shows a late‑year pressure point and a volatile winter-to-spring rhythm. November 2025 stands out as a seasonal spike, consistent with elevated demand windows; that spike reversed into December and then collapsed into January and March lows. Spring months (April–June 2026) produced a recovery arc, including a sharp lift into June (CPC ≈ $1.00), followed by a modest pullback in July. Across the 13 months the average absolute month-to-month swing in Canada was about $0.13 — meaning the market moved in meaningful steps between months rather than through a smooth trend.
Across the year Canada trailed the global benchmark on average by about 14%. Month-to-month gaps varied: the narrowest gap was July 2025 (only ~1–2% below global), while the largest shortfall appeared in March 2026 when Canadian CPCs were roughly 37% below the global median. Uniquely, July 2026 reversed that pattern — Canada was about 20% above the global level. Volatility in Canada was higher than the global baseline: average monthly absolute movement ≈ $0.13 in Canada versus ≈ $0.10 globally, reflecting more pronounced swings in country-specific ad costs.

Facebook advertising cost benchmarks
Cost Per Click (CPC) is the amount advertisers pay each time a user clicks on their Facebook ad. Ad costs vary across industries because of competition, audience demographics, and conversion value. For campaigns targeting Canada, advertisers should consider local market factors and user behavior. Campaign objectives affect costs because Facebook optimizes delivery for different goals. The data shows median values across multiple campaigns. Results can vary with ad quality, audience targeting, and campaign optimization.
A small share of campaigns has extremely high CPC values. Those outliers can inflate an average. The median is the midpoint across campaigns, so it better represents a typical result.
The data shows industry median benchmarks. Costs can vary with targeting, creative quality, and campaign optimization.

Late November (Black Friday and Cyber Monday), December (holiday shopping, Boxing Day), Back-to-school (August-September), Mother's Day (May)
CPM may increase during Canada Day, Labour Day, and Thanksgiving. E-commerce bidding rises on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Ad costs may increase in December. Back-to-school and Mother's Day increase retail competition. Provincial holidays may change weekday inventory availability.
CPC (Cost Per Click) is what you pay each time someone clicks on your ad, on any Facebook Ads placement. It's calculated by dividing your total spend by the number of clicks received. Facebook Ads lists Clicks, Link Clicks and Outbound Clicks separately. The former is the sum of all types of clicks (including, for example, clicks to your profile page, to a link or to a comment).
CPC varies by region, industry, and campaign objective. Use the filters to compare benchmarks that match your campaign. The US is one of the more expensive markets.
Audience targeting, industry competition, ad relevance score, and creative performance affect CPC. Low engagement or relevance can increase CPC.
CPC can increase with more competition in your target audience, seasonal trends such as holidays, lower ad relevance scores, or algorithm changes. Check whether your audience is too narrow or your creative is showing fatigue.
Mobile CPCs often run lower than desktop CPCs because there is more mobile inventory. Segment performance by placement to see where clicks come from.
For most businesses, conversion optimization produces better ROI than CPC alone. CPC optimization can suit awareness campaigns or content promotion when clicks are the goal.
Your specific audience targeting, creative quality, bidding strategy, and account history all influence your CPC. Industry averages provide a reference point, but your historical performance is a more reliable benchmark for setting expectations and measuring improvement.
Instagram CPCs are generally slightly higher because of purchase intent and advertiser competition. Results also depend on the audience and creative.
